Laguna Maria!

Last Monday we went to Laguna Maria, a lake up near the Volcan de Fuego with the twins, Coke and Cindy, Cass and Craig. We had a nice picnic lunch, did lots of exploring and also got to do some service!

Laguna Maria! Kinda reminded me of Wisconsin lakes a bit. The trees aren't quite the same though. ha ha.
You can't see it in this picture, but there were a couple guys out 'Mexican Fishing' as I call it. It consists of throwing out a fishing line with only a hook attached to it and then pulling it in with only your hands when you get a fish. I'm still not sure how it works, and the more I think about it the more I'm sure it requires a lot more skill than regular rod and reel fishing. It still made me laugh though. Especially when you see them fish right next to the 'No fishing' sign.
Sweet shoes!
Cool tree eh? We had more Canadian visitors recently. . . sorry for the accent. ha.
Check out what we found!!! We went on this little hike straight up a hill and we found a series of FIVE tunnels! Cool huh? The only freaky thing is that there are TONS of moths flying around in the tunnel, so you just don't look up as you're walking through them cuz it's kinda gross.
The first one was the longest and you have to stoop over to walk through. Pretty cool!

 Molly!
Another of the tunnels.
The last one was so skinny that you had to crawl through. Kinda freaky! And very messy. ha ha. There was no path after that last one, so you just stuck your head out, took a look around and crawled back.
This was the view!
 Heading back out.
 The (dirty) adventurers!
Cass found an older lady, her daughter, and granddaughter who were picking coffee beans up on the hillside, which is full of them, and offered to have us all help! This is their livelihood and I was glad we could do even a little bit to help them. They had these giant sacks they were trying to fill. Collectively in probably 45 minutes six of us only filled about 1/4 of a bag. It takes a lot of effort! P.S. You know the coffee bean is ready to be picked when it's red (there are some varieties that are green when picked). Who would have guessed right? They're also a little bit sticky, well the sappy stuff inside is and when picking them you get a little on your hands.  Anyway, it was a great experience and they were grateful. I hope the granddaughter is able to find a way to go to school, because that's what she wants to do!
Our picnic spot. We had such a yummy lunch! The bread and tostadas they have here are AMAZING! Not to mention the guacamole. I'm going to miss it!
One last look at the lake. :)

We found a peacock up by the office to get into the Laguna. It was neat to be able to get so close! They're beautiful birds!
This was kind of like one of those spinning tea cups at Disneyland. So fun!
We took a small detour on the way back to Cofradia. It was sort of a gated community and hotel with an awesome pool called Residencia de Cofradia. It had a spectacular view. Kinda hard to tell in the picture. . .
We wanted to go swimming SO bad!! And check out the volcano! It's a little behind the clouds, but still pretty cool!
The volcano from the top of Casa Suegras. :)
