The Tale of Agave Fields and a Dog Named Miguel

So here's a short bit of knowledge for ya. These here fields you see are full of agave plants. As I have recently learned, agave plants are what they use to make tequila. They also make the agave sweetener. Anyway, they're in the same family as the aloe vera plant and if I remember correctly it takes about 7 years before they can be harvested.

Can you find the volcano in this picture?

So. . . here begins the tale of Miguel. Molly, Allie and I were out on a walk by those agave fields and we found a dog on the side of the road under a big tree. He didn't move much and we could tell he was injured or sick. The twins informed me that people will often poison their dogs and send them out if they don't want them anymore, so we were worried that was what had happened. Our neighbor, Javier, is a vet, so we decided we should let him know about the dog and see if there was anything to do. We got Javier, along with his whole family and three of their friends to walk out to the road where the dog was. Imagine 10 of us walking out at dusk to find a dog, kinda funny. We found him and Javier figured he had been hit by a car and had a lot of swelling but luckily not much internal bleeding. We later figured out his back leg (the closest one in the picture) was broken, so he put it in a splint. We put up a sign the next day (after Marisol informed us that he had peed all over her kitchen during the night. . . at least his insides were ok right?) in hopes we could find the owner. We went to the beach that day and drove up in the evening just as the dog was driving away with his owners. Javier had asked around and found the owner. It sounds like a happy story right? The little kids in the car were so excited and the dog Miguel was wagging his tale. . . Turns out his idiot of an owner is a drunk and HIT HIS OWN DOG!!! We thought his brother or friend who was with him looked a lot more responsible and he said he would take care of the dog, but we saw him the next day without the splint and hopping around on three legs. Anyway, there's not too much more we can do. Medicines are expensive and we can't pay for them or expect Javier to do so. I'm glad we were able to help the dog if even for a little while. He is a beautiful dog!
